Drylab
Use Cases

Share Results with Your PI

Write a one-page summary, then send your PI a link to the chat or an interactive app they can explore.

To update your PI or a collaborator, ask Drylab for a short summary first. Then share the whole chat as a link, or turn the results into a small app your PI can explore on their own.

When to use it

  • Your PI wants an update before lab meeting, with the key figures and what they mean.
  • A collaborator needs to check how a result was made: the code, the parameters and the files.
  • Your PI keeps asking "what about gene X?" and would rather look it up themselves.
  • You're handing an analysis over to a lab mate who will continue it.

Prompt examples

A one-page summary to send first:

Summarize this analysis for my PI on one page: the question, the methods in plain words, 3 key findings with figure references, and caveats. Save it as pi_summary.md.

A short update for lab meeting:

Write 5 bullet points for lab meeting about this analysis: what we tested, the main result with numbers, the best figure to show, and the next step. Keep it under 120 words.

An app your PI can explore:

Make an interactive app where my PI can pick a gene and see its expression by condition, using @counts_normalized.csv and @metadata.csv. Add a search box and a box plot per condition.

Share the app with your PI:

Steps

  1. Ask Drylab for a summary (see the prompts above), so your PI has a starting point when they open the link.
  2. Click Share in the top bar of the chat.
  3. In Share link to chat, choose Private and type your PI's email under Allowed emails. They sign in with that email to open the link.
  4. Under Include attached files in shared conversation, tick the summary and the figures to include, and untick anything they don't need.
  5. Click Create link. When you see Share link created successfully!, click Copy link and send it.

The files you tick are copied into the share (the dialog says "Selected files will be copied to public storage"). Your PI sees the copies from the moment you shared. To send newer versions later, click Share again and use Update share.

The dialog says "This is a Desktop App session": your files are on your computer, and only the ones you tick are uploaded ("Selected files will be uploaded from this computer"). Share Desktop App chats from the Desktop App: if you share the same chat from the web app, only the conversation is shared, without files.

Build an interactive app (web app)

  1. Ask Drylab to build the app, for example "Make an interactive app where my PI can pick a gene and see its expression by condition".
  2. Drylab builds it and shows it in the chat's Site tab. Try it yourself first: search a few genes you know.
  3. Ask Drylab to share it with your PI's email. Drylab asks you to approve before it shares.
  4. Your PI finds the app under Sites, in Shared to Me. Each person gets their own private copy, so your files stay yours.

Apps are built and shared from the web app. See Sites.

Tips

  • Private is the safer default. Only the people whose emails you add can open a private link, and you can add or remove people later. A Public link works for anyone who has it.
  • A share is a snapshot. Messages you add after sharing stay private until you update the share.
  • Remove a link when you're done. Click Share, then Revoke share link. This deletes the shared copy; your own chat and files are not affected.
  • Point your PI to the follow-up box. When signed in, they can ask Drylab a question under your shared chat. It starts a new chat in their own workspace and doesn't change yours.
